What is link popularity?

So what exactly is link popularity?

Link popularity is the volume of individual websites or web pages which link to your website.

When another website links to yours, the link is considered to be a vote of credibility. Using this simplistic but effective system, search engines can calculate which sites are the most credible based on how many other sites are linking to them.

It is our opinion that even the most highly optimised website in the world wouldn't rank highly for relevant search phrases without at least one other website linking to it.

So the website with the most links is ranked first?

Unfortunately not. Search engines consider many factors when ranking websites and link popularity is just one of those factors.
